The Library of the Department of African Studies at the University of Delhi is a valuable resource hub for scholars, researchers, and students specializing in African Studies. Established alongside the department itself, the library serves as a crucial center for academic inquiry into the diverse cultures, histories, economies, politics, and social dynamics of the African continent.

Collection and Resources

The library houses a rich collection of books, journals, reports, and periodicals and Thesis (approx. 4000) related to various aspects of Africa. This includes works on African history, politics, anthropology, development studies, literature, international relations, and diaspora studies. The library also subscribes to archives of many Global databases on African studies that are relevant to African studies and Indo-African relations.

In addition to printed materials, the library offers digital resources, providing access to e-journals, research databases, and online archives that support advanced academic research. All these e-Resources are accessible through DU eLibrary: https://duelibrary.in/#/home

One of the department's significant academic contributions is the Indian Journal of African Studies, which is published biannually. The journal serves as a leading platform for scholarly research on Africa from Indian and global perspectives. It covers a wide array of topics including African politics, economics, society, history, and culture, as well as India-Africa relations. The library maintains a complete archive of all issues of the Indian Journal of African Studies, making it a valuable resource for researchers studying the evolution of African Studies in India.
