National Librarians' Day
Commemorating the Visionary Legacy
National Librarians' Day is celebrated across India on 12th August to mark the birth anniversary of Padmashree Dr. S. R. Ranganathan (1892–1972), affectionately revered as the Father of Library Science in India.
Dr. Ranganathan served as a pioneer and Professor of Library Science at the University of Delhi (1947–1955), establishing the first school of librarianship in India to offer master's and doctoral degrees. His visionary leadership transformed Indian libraries from passive book repositories into vibrant learning centers.
Dr. S. R. Ranganathan's Five Laws of Library Science:
- Books are for use — Knowledge must be accessible to all.
- Every reader his/her book — Tailored information access for every user.
- Every book its reader — Connecting resources to the right audience.
- Save the time of the reader — Streamlining search and retrieval systems.
- A library is a growing organism — Continuous adaptation to technology and learning.

To mark the occasion of National Librarians' Day, the University of Delhi, in collaboration with Cambridge University Press & Assessment, is pleased to present a special researcher development workshop titled "Publishing Pathways – Empowering Academic Research."
Designed for faculty members, researchers, and research scholars, the workshop will equip participants with practical knowledge and insights to confidently navigate the scholarly publishing journey.
