ABOUT US
The South Campus Library, University of Delhi was established in 1973 to facilitate access for South Delhi Residents. It moved to its present location on Benito Juarez Road, near Dhaula Kuan, in 1984. it is housed in a four storey separate building, in beautiful surroundings on an elevated site at the centre of the Campus and offers a congenial environment for study and research. The Library which acts as a learning resource centre for teaching and research programmes of the 20 departments of the Campus, is one of most richly equipped libraries of Delhi University in terms of resources, services and infrastructural facilities. The collection of books reflects both classic and a contemporary touch and has a research orientation. Most of the library services are being leveraged through an integrated library portal and the library collection is completely computerised. The total collection of the library well exceeds 1,50,000 books and bound volumes of periodicals. The total seating capacity of the Library is about 350, with reading halls on all the floors. The Library has been organized as follows.
Ground Floor: The ground floor of the library has the Issue/Return counter, Membership, Current Periodicals, E-Resource Centre, Online Public Access Catalogue, Acquisitions section and Social Science reference collection.
First Floor: The first floor of the library has the Processing Section where the books of Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities are processed. The books on English and Hindi Literature, Sanskrit, Philosophy Commerce, Economics, Sociology, Journalism, History, Political Science, visual Arts etc. are available on this floor.
Second Floor: The floor is devoted to books in the areas of Mathematics, Computer and Electronic Science, Applied Sciences and bound volumes of Journals, magazines and newspapers are available here. The current issues are arranged alphabetically. Presently the Library is subscribing to 158 journals /newspapers along with some annual reports of various organizations.
The Library uses a comprehensive signage system to make its resources and facilities known and accessible to students.
